Paris: It's not every day that you can stand in line at the Louvre Museum next to a flock of live sheep.

But that's what happened to tourists when they were caught up in a protest by small farmers beneath the glass pyramid of the Paris museum on Friday.

There were no arrests or damage as a result of the protest.

The protesters from the Peasants' Confederation were angry at proposed subsidy cuts that they said unfairly punished small farms. The cuts are part of a broader reform of European Union agricultural policy.

Dairy farmer Laurent Pinatel argued that small farms deserve support because they are important to France's economy, identity and culinary reputation.
