AI and facial recognition help Pakistani woman reunite with family after 17 years

An old police report facial recognition software and AI technology helped a Pakistani woman reunite with her family after 17 years. Kiran, 27, had lost her way when she had stepped out to buy ice cream in her neighborhood in Islamabad in 2008. Days later, was taken to an NGO shelter in Karachi, where she grew up.

Several attempts to trace her parents were futile. But this year, the NGO contacted a cybersecurity expert in Punjab who located a police report of a missing girl in Islamabad. Using AI, facial recognition and tracking software, he then tracked down Kiran's family.
