Researchers have developed a method that allows drones to recognise when they are approaching failure, giving them the ability to adapt before losing control.

The approach borrows a concept from nature known as "critical slowing down," a phenomenon that signals when ecosystems are nearing a tipping point.

The researchers found that using sensors and Artificial Intelligence, same principles can be used to identify early signs of instability in actively controlled systems such as drones, aircraft, and autonomous vehicles.
