A new Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) allows people to play video games using only brain activity. Using real-time fMRI (functional MRI), users could control a computer efficiently through their thoughts alone.
The study revealed brain activity follows established neural pathways. Learning to use a BCI was easier when the system worked with those existing pathways.
When a BCI aligns with the brain's natural organisation, users gain control quickly, and their brain activity adapts to support learning. Systems that do not match this structure produce little or no improvement.
