UK PM David Cameron is considering moving the clocks forward an hour all-year round so people can enjoy longer evenings but only if he can convince the Scots.
MPs are calling for the PM to introduce British Summer Time throughout the year to give families one hour of extra light at the end of the day.
But the move would be widely opposed in Scotland over fears children would travel to school in the dark in the mornings, risking more traffic accidents. Tourism chiefs back the move, saying the lighter evenings would boost the leisure industry.
While previous attempts by MPs to introduce year-round summertime have ended in failure, the PM
gave his strongest signal, yesterday, that the Government would take it seriously.
