China on Monday test-fired a long-range strategic missile from one of its nuclear-powered submarines in the Pacific Ocean, drawing sharp reactions from Japan and Australia.

China said one of its nuclear submarines launched the missile carrying a dummy warhead toward the high seas of the Pacific Ocean at 12.01 pm. The missile landed within designated waters.

The test launch is part of routine annual training, the navy said, adding that the Chinese side had notified relevant countries in advance.
