Have you ever realised how strange our tributes to the deceased can be?

If not, now's the time to do it, as farmers in the US and Canada pay tribute to American icon Dolly Parton with large corn mazes in the shape of her face.

Brett Herbst, founder of The Maize Inc., the company that designed the mazes, called Parton a "true American treasure," and also revealed that the mazes were in the works even before her death, as part of an annual campaign to honour the greatest American singers.

‘Dolly Parton' the mazes spell above the carving of her face, while sporting the caption ‘An American Treasure' on the bottom. They exist in about a dozen states and two provinces now, from Alabama to California and Ohio to Texas, featuring a Parton-themed trivia game, photo ops and other offerings.

For a person to be immortalised in corn is rather unique. Perhaps quite fitting for an icon like her.

No city for traffic lights

Welcome to Devon, home to many geniuses who call themselves ‘Blade runners'. This enlightened bunch of conspiracy theorists has been accused of damaging traffic light sensors across the city, all to protect their fellow citizens from ‘electronic assault weapons'.

A passer-by caught a couple of them on video, climbing a traffic light post and damaging the equipment by cutting a bunch of wires connected to advanced sensors.

On social media, they preached how traffic lights are weapons powered by "illegal battlefield-derived technology", causing a range of serious health problems, including heart attacks, brain cancer, and even sudden death. What should the Devon police do with the Blade Runners? Perhaps throw them on a street with no traffic lights?

Had to do it twice!

Linda Schulz, a 67-year-old Wisconsin woman, has reclaimed the Guinness World Records title for the largest collection of salt and pepper packets, with a whopping 754 matching pairs. She got the same title in 2024, losing it only last year. Didn't know those small packets had any use outside of seasoning food!
