US President Donald Trump on Thursday said that the latest US proposal aimed at resolving tensions with Iran is "more than a one-page offer," claiming that Tehran had verbally agreed to several conditions, including handing over what he described as "nuclear dust", reported ANI.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump rejected suggestions that the American diplomatic outreach to Iran consisted of a brief or limited proposal. He said the offer included several broader conditions focused on restricting Iran's nuclear capabilities and addressing regional stability concerns, reported ANI.
According to Trump, the proposal requires Iran to abandon any path toward nuclear weapons development and comply with additional American demands linked to ongoing negotiations, reported ANI.
Trump further claimed that Iranian representatives had agreed to the terms discussed during recent talks. However, he questioned the reliability of those commitments, suggesting that agreements reached during negotiations were not always consistently upheld by Tehran, reported ANI.
"They have agreed," Trump said, while adding that the situation remains complicated due to what he described as multiple centres of leadership within Iran.
Despite Trump's comments, Iranian officials indicated that no final decision has yet been taken regarding the American proposal. According to reports from Iranian media, Tehran is still evaluating diplomatic communications delivered through mediators from Pakistan.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that the messages are under review and that no official response has been sent to Washington so far. Iranian officials reportedly continue to focus discussions on a ceasefire arrangement and broader regional stability, reported ANI.
Diplomatic efforts involving intermediaries appear to have intensified in recent days. Reports indicated that Abbas Araghchi held discussions with Ishaq Dar as part of the ongoing mediation process, reported ANI.
Pakistan has emerged as an important channel for communication between Washington and Tehran amid efforts to avoid further escalation in the region.
The US President maintained an optimistic tone regarding the negotiations, saying a deal remains possible and suggesting that the broader conflict could end quickly if an agreement is reached.
Trump has repeatedly stated in recent days that Iran appears willing to negotiate despite continued tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing military deployments in the Gulf region, reported ANI.
Even as diplomatic discussions continue, the United States has maintained economic and political pressure on Iran. Reports indicated that Washington imposed new sanctions targeting Iraq's deputy oil minister and several militia-linked figures accused of supporting Tehran.
The latest developments reflect the dual-track US strategy of pursuing negotiations while simultaneously maintaining sanctions and military pressure in an effort to influence Iran's position at the negotiating table.
