Hydrogen-powered submarine drone completes 1,257-mile mission without surfacing

A hydrogen fuel cell-powered submarine drone by Cellula Robotics completed a 1,257-mile underwater mission, operating for 385 hours without surfacing. The Envoy AUV marks a breakthrough in long-endurance autonomous underwater technology

A submarine drone has traveled more than 1257 miles fully submerged, powered by hydrogen fuel cells, and completed a 385-hour mission without surfacing.

Built by Cellula Robotics in British Columbia, Canada, the Envoy autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) measures about 27.9 feet in length and 3.3 feet in diameter.

It has a displacement of about 8160 lbs (3700 kg). Smaller configurations are also available.
