Pakistan on Thursday announced that the US and Iran have affixed electronic signatures on the peace deal, paving the way for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the signing of the agreement at the highest level of the respective governments demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.

Sharif on Thursday signed the Memorandum of Understanding - aimed at restoring peace in West Asia - as the key mediator of the negotiations.

However, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that the US will restart military action and reimpose a blockade if Iran does not fulfil its commitments under its agreement.

"If Iran doesn't comply, then we're more than able to reimpose an ironclad blockade," he said.
