Humanoid robots to handle cargo at Japan airport

Japan Airlines will begin a two-year trial next month at Tokyo's Haneda Airport using Chinese-made humanoid robots for cargo and baggage handling tasks. The airline employs 4000 ground handling staff and plans to expand robot duties to cabin cleaning by 2028. Japan's aviation industry faces severe labor shortages from an aging population and surging tourism. The robots aim to reduce physical strain on workers handling heavy luggage, though they currently operate only a few hours between charges. Humanoid robots' human-like form allows integration into existing airport workflows without costly modifications.
