Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Sanae Takaichi has informed US President Donald Trump that she has nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, Kyodo News reported, citing the White House. The announcement came during Trump's ongoing diplomatic visit to Asia, which included a meeting with Takaichi at Akasaka Palace in Tokyo.

Takaichi, who recently took office, praised Trump for his diplomatic contributions, particularly his role in securing peace agreements, reported news agency ANI.

She highlighted his efforts in brokering a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia and his contributions towards securing peace in Gaza.

"Mr. President succeeded in securing a ceasefire deal between Thailand and Cambodia... also, the deal you have recently achieved in the Middle East is an unprecedented, historic achievement," said the Japanese PM.

Takaichi's comments align with Trump's frequent claim of being the "President of Peace", a title he uses to emphasise his involvement in resolving various global conflicts, including those between Thailand and Cambodia, and in Gaza.

Although Trump did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize this year, he continues to garner international support for the honour. Countries such as Israel, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Thailand have expressed backing for the US President's nomination.

Cambodian PM Hun Manet also reiterated his support for Trump's Nobel Peace Prize nomination, reflecting on the US President's peace efforts between his country and Thailand.

In Kuala Lumpur, Hun stated, "Recognizing your unwavering dedication and resolute efforts to promote peace, not only between Cambodia and Thailand but also among other nations, and reflecting the gratitude of the Cambodian people, I have nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize."

In July, Gabonese President Brice Oligui Nguema similarly praised Trump's role in mediating peace between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, stating that Trump "deserves a Nobel Peace Prize" for bringing peace to the region.

Meanwhile, during his meeting with Takaichi, Trump and the Japanese PM signed agreements on cooperation to secure and supply critical minerals, including rare earths, as part of efforts to strengthen economic security, particularly in relation to China, ANI reported.

Takaichi described the Japan-US relationship as the "greatest alliance in the world", and expressed her commitment to ushering in a "new golden era" of cooperation. Trump echoed her sentiments, saying they would have "a fantastic relationship," adding, "I have always had a great love of Japan and a great respect of Japan, and I will say that this will be a relationship that will be stronger than ever before."

He further assured Takaichi, "I want to just let you know - any time you have any question, any doubt, anything you want, any favors you need, anything I can do to help Japan, we will be there."

Trump's Asia tour began in Malaysia, where he played a key role in brokering the peace deal between Thailand and Cambodia. After Japan, he will continue his tour with visits to South Korea, where he will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss trade tensions, ANI reported.
