Carbon-carbon consists of carbon fibers in a solid carbon matrix. REPRESENTATION PIC/ISTOCK
Johns Hopkins APL researchers have developed âFAST CAR2', a new method that dramatically speeds up the manufacturing of carbon-carbon composites while slashing production costs.
Consisting of carbon fibers in a solid carbon matrix, this material is lightweight, strong, and exceptionally heat-tolerant, making it vital for rocket nozzles, hypersonic vehicles, aircraft brakes, and missile nose cones.
The rapid FAST CAR2 process replaces traditional, labor-intensive methods, paving the way for faster, more efficient production of high-performance materials.
