Cornell University researchers have documented the first cases of Marfan syndrome in domestic cats, identified in feline brothers Gary and Shaggy. The rare inherited connective tissue disorder caused long limbs, eye structural issues, and aortic enlargement.
Though both cats carried two altered copies of the FBN1 gene - a condition typically fatal - their specific variant retained enough normal function to allow them to survive into adulthood, offering key genetic insights.
