Overnight Russian strikes killed two people in Ukraine, hours after Moscow rejected German demands to ease escalation toward NATO.

At the UN General Assembly, Russia's top diplomat brushed off a meeting with his German counterpart - their first since the 2022 invasion.

Tensions between both nations continue to sour after an attempted drone attack at Leipzig airport, which Berlin blamed on Russia.
