Saudi Arabia says it has shot down drones fired by Iran-backed militias in Iraq.

The statement posted on social media Monday by the Saudi Defence Ministry came as the US and Iran had paused their attacks over the weekend after weeks of escalation.

The statement said the drones targeted petroleum facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia and the capital, Riyadh.
