Strong 6.6 magnitude earthquake hits Mexico

A strong earthquake, measuring between magnitude 6.4 and 6.6 shakes the capital of Mexico City, rattling buildings and prompting offices to be evacuated


Mexico City: A strong earthquake, measuring between magnitude 6.4 and 6.6, jolted Mexico on Thursday noon and shook the capital of Mexico City, rattling buildings and prompting offices to be evacuated.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the temblor measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale jolted 15 km north of Tecpan de Galeana area, about 277 km from Mexico City. The quake in the Guerrero state had a depth of 23.95 km, Xinhua reported.

The USGS initially said the quake measured 6.8 on the Richter scale.

Meanwhile, the Mexican National Seismological Service put the quake at 6.6 magnitude.

There was no immediate reports of any casualty.
