The US Army is pushing to replace soldiers with robots for dangerous battlefield tasks like moving supplies and evacuating wounded troops.

As drones expand surveillance and strike capabilities, even short-distance movement has become highly risky.

The service is now seeking an unmanned ground vehicle that can autonomously handle both resupply and casualty evacuation missions in contested environments.

The army wants an interchangeable platform that can switch with minimal changes and can carry enough cargo to sustain a rifle platoon and a company headquarters.
