The White House on Monday launched "Trump TV: The Essentials Station", a 24/7 streaming platform featuring speeches and public appearances by US President Donald Trump, administration announcements and other official video content.
The platform, which is being streamed through the White House's digital channels, was launched as the Trump administration faces a legal dispute with CNN, MS NOW and Politico over restrictions on their access to the White House.
The White House's official X account announced the launch, saying the stream would operate around the clock and be updated with administration announcements, past footage and other presidential content.
Announcing the launch, the official X account of The White House said, "IT'S LIVE. TRUMP TV IS STREAMING NOW. 24/7, updated in real time, with top past moments, announcements, and the latest and greatest from the administration all in one place. Not every big moment has made it on your tv, now it can."
The White House's own live page describes the service as a stream of the Trump administration's major moments, including videos, remarks and highlights, updated in real time.
The initial broadcast included footage from Trump's previous public appearances and speeches, including his swearing-in ceremony as the 47th president of the United States.
The platform gives the administration a direct digital outlet for distributing video of presidential events and official announcements without relying solely on traditional news organisations for the distribution of such footage.
The launch came on the same day CNN, MS NOW and Politico filed a federal lawsuit challenging the administration's decision to restrict their journalists' access to the White House.
The three news organisations argue that the restrictions violate constitutional protections for the press and contend that the administration should not determine access based on their reporting. The White House has defended the restrictions, arguing that the First Amendment protects the media's right to publish but does not guarantee individual organisations access to the White House grounds, briefing room or presidential press pool.
The dispute has also affected the White House television pool, under which participating news organisations share footage of presidential events. Other major broadcasters have suspended the shared video operation following CNN's exclusion from the pool, according to reports.
Trump defended the restrictions while speaking to reporters outside Gracie Mansion following his meeting with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Responding to questions about whether news organisations could boycott him, Trump said:
"They said they were going to boycott me, but they never boycott me. So I wasn't very worried about that. Look at all that press," Trump said.
He also argued that news organisations had an obligation to report fairly and defended the administration's decision to restrict outlets he accused of publishing what he called "fake news".
"I think that these outlets have an obligation to be fair. And if they're fake news, I really think I have an obligation not to allow them into another very special house," Trump said, referring to the White House.
CNN, MS NOW and Politico have challenged the restrictions in court, arguing that the government should not selectively restrict journalists based on their reporting. The legal proceedings are now set to determine whether the administration's restrictions can remain in place.
Trump is currently in New York for the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where he is scheduled to participate in the high-level General Debate and hold meetings with several world leaders.
The launch of Trump TV comes as the White House and major news organisations continue to dispute how presidential events should be covered and who should have access to them.
