The most powerful electric tugboat in the world has completed sea trials and is set to enter service to cut towing emissions by up to 90 per cent.

Built by the Uzmar shipyard in Turkey, Svitzer Balder is the first battery-methanol harbor tug ever built.

It is equipped with a six megawatt-hour battery and can perform 90 per cent of towing and docking operations using battery-electric power alone.

It can operate in the harbor and near-open sea conditions.
