Ruby Dhalla: The glam life of the 45-year-old model-turned-politician

Indo-Canadian politician Ruby Dhalla was born for politics. Politician, social activist, and a doting daughter are few of the facets of Indo-Canadian politician Ruby Dhalla's illustrious yet colourful career so far. Ruby Dhalla was born on February 18, 1974, to an immigrant family from Punjab, India in Canada.

Ruby Dhalla was made for politics. Since an early age, Dhalla was involved in activism, no matter if she was in the spotlight or not. At the age of 10, Dhalla wrote a letter to the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in order to advocate for peace and justice during the 1984 Sikh riots.

Ruby Dhalla's letter to Indira Gandhi did not go unnoticed and soon she was invited to India by the PM Indira Gandhi during a public press conference. But sadly, Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards and her meeting with Ruby Dhalla could never take place.

Besides being a smart politician, social activist, and a known socialite, Ruby Dhalla is also a momma's girl. On the occasion of Mother's Day, Ruby took to Instagram to share this adorable picture with her mom and captioned it: My angel, my best friend, my strength, my inspiration & my world .... you are the wind beneath my wings... Happy Mothers Day... The biggest gift God has given me in this lifetime is to have you as my mother...!

From 2004 to 2011, Ruby Dhalla represented the riding of Brampton - Springdale in the House of Commons of Canada as a Member of Parliament. She was nominated by the then PM of Canada, Paul Martin. She became the first women of Indian origin to get elected in Canada as a Member of Parliament.

As a member of Parliament of Canada, Ruby Dhalla led from the front and actively voiced her opinion for her constituency, minorities and especially women. She even voted in favour of Canada's same-sex marriage legislation in 2005. In the same year, the Liberal government was defeated with a call for fresh elections. And once again, Ruby Dhalla was re-elected as Member of Parliament.

Before joining active politics, Ruby Dhalla received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Winnipeg and later on went on to graduate with a Doctor of Chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. Later, she opened a chain of multidisciplinary health care clinics across Toronto, Canada.

Ruby Dhalla who is well known for her speaking skills, outreach initiatives, and her youthfulness, has also acted in a Bollywood film. In order to pursue her acting career, Dhalla stayed in India for nearly six months and played a lead role as an actor in Kyon? Kis Liye? Inspired by Bollywood, the movie was shot entirely at Hamilton, Ontario.

The 45-year-old Indo-Canadian politician was once named as the world's third "hottest" female politician by leading men's magazine.

Back in 2017, Ruby Dhalla shared this picture of herself receiving memorabilia from the then PM of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. While sharing the pic, Dhalla wrote: 100 Global Punjabis in the World, titled 'Jewels of Punjab'Released by former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

When it comes to politics, Ruby Dhalla's inspiration is none other than PM Narendra Modi and during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she was actively keeping an eye on the election results. While sharing this picture, Dhall wrote: Your voice. Your vote. Your victory. And it's a wrap... the worlds biggest democracy cast their final ballots today. May 23 the world shall know what the people of India have decided.
