Vice President Sara Duterte is prepared to confront the impeachment charges against her, according to a statement from her defence team on June 9, just two days before the Senate impeachment court is scheduled to convene

Civil society groups, including the Akbayan Party, have launched a three-day protest from June 9 to 11, urging the Senate to immediately begin the trial

Protesters gathered at the Manila Film Centre on Monday morning and later marched to the Senate building in Pasay, calling out the delay in proceedings

Under the 1987 Constitution, the Senate is required to “forthwith proceed” with the trial once the articles of impeachment are transmitted. However, the process was stalled due to Congress entering recess for the national elections

Outgoing Senator Francis Tolentino, who opposes the trial extending into the next Congress, proposed a revised timeline, suggesting the impeachment court begin proceedings on June 11 and deliver a decision by June 30
