A deadly avalanche has struck the base camp area of Himlung Himal in Nepal’s Manang district, leaving at least four people dead and 12 Nepalese workers and guides missing, according to officials. A 14-member rescue team has reached the 7,126-metre Himlung Himal base camp by helicopter and begun searching for those still unaccounted for. Officials say 27 people were believed to be at the base camp when the avalanche struck, while 11 people have since made contact. The team had been preparing for the autumn climbing season, fixing ropes and setting up tents when the avalanche hit.
