A massive release of unredacted emails tied to Jeffrey Epstein has brought renewed global attention to the long-controversial allegations involving Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, and Virginia Giuffre. The newly disclosed correspondence, part of a 3.5-million-document release by the U.S. Department of Justice, contains what appears to be the first written reference to an alleged "consensual sexual" encounter involving the British royal and Giuffre. In a private January 2015 email exchange, Epstein was advised by a journalist on how to manage public fallout and distance himself from Prince Andrew. Virginia Giuffre, who accused Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell of trafficking her as a minor, maintained that she was coerced into sexual encounters with powerful figures, including the Duke of York.
