Nottingham: Former Zimbabwe skipper Brendan Taylor, who quit playing international cricket to play English county cricket, was found sleeping in an unlocked car by local police here on Friday.

Taylor was partying on Thursday night as his side Nottinghamshire progressed to the semi-finals of the Royal London Cup and then he landed up in the car.

Michael Whitaker, 45, from West Bridgford, Nottingham, was leaving for work on Wednesday when he found someone lying in his unlocked Chevrolet Matiz. It turned out to be the 29-year-old Taylor, now a batsman with Nottinghamshire.

Taylor had taken shelter in the car having lost his bearings several hours after Nottinghamshire's quarter-final victory against Durham.

"Neither myself, the police or Brendan knew what to do," Whitaker told the Nottingham Post newspaper.

"I don't think he knew where he was but he was very apologetic and it quickly became clear that it was very innocent."

Whitaker added: "Realising who it was made it even funnier because how often do you find an international cricket star asleep in your car?"

Nottinghamshire Police said: "The car had not been broken into and no offences had been committed. The man in the car was extremely apologetic and even offered to get the car valeted."

Nottinghamshire have yet to make a statement on the incident.
