Wasim Jaffer is hopeful that his talented side would break the jinx when they face the formidable Rest of India at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium today

Aware of the fact that 39-time Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai have not won the Irani Trophy for the past 12 years, skipper Wasim Jaffer is hopeful that his talented side would break the jinx when they face the formidable Rest of India at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium today.

After slogging it out in the nets, Jaffer exuded confidence and did not read much into theu00a0 absence of Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan, who are on national duty.

"We have become used to their absence. Due to a busy international schedule, they often miss domestic matches. It is acceptable too as we understand that they prefer to rest between tight schedules. But it comes in as an opportunity for the youngsters. Ajinkya Rahane, Abhishek Nayar and others have an opportunity to prove themselves once again," said Jaffer.

"I am aware that we have not won the Irani Trophy for the past 12-years and we would give our best to break the jinx. Mumbai last won the Irani Trophy in 1997-1998," he said.

"We have a balanced side and hope for a keen contest. The wicket looks good and we have the resources to give a good fight to the fancied Rest of India," he added.

Talking about the form of Yuvraj Singh, Jaffer dwelled cautiously. "He might be going through a lean period, but he is a fine player. He alone is not a threat as others can make a difference too."

Talking about his omission from the national side, Jaffer refused to play the blame game. When asked despite having a double hundred and few other good knocks in Tests, he was out of favour, the lanky opener said that he is still hoping for a comeback. "That is why I continue playing. My job is to score and wait for the call," he added.
