END GAME? Lalit Modi

Lalit Modi made his first public appearance yesterday after he was suspended as IPL chairman. It is believed he held discussions with top lawyers in Delhi to look into the possibility of taking BCCI to court over his suspension.

But Jaywant Lele who, until recently, was an integral part of the board believes Modi's chances of a return to the BCCI fold are minimal.

"He does not get along with two of the biggest names in the BCCI, Shashank Manohar (president) and N Srinivasan (secretary). They are both masters in their fields and if they don't want Modi, then it's going to be very difficult for him to come back even if he defends himself successfully," Lele, who has been the Board secretary, told MiD DAY yesterday.

No support
"Modi needs to be backed by someone and if both Manohar and Srinivasan are not in his favour, then it's a big problem for him. Not many people will go against the two of them," said Lele adding that Modi's lack of support from the state associations also puts him on shaky ground.

"The powers he had as the IPL chairman and commissioner are one thing, but he does not have a major hold in any of the state associations.

"He lost the elections in Rajasthan and has no presence there. He is representing the Punjab Cricket Association but he doesn't have enough support in PCA for him to make a serious case of a comeback. Hence, if the BCCI doesn't want him, he has no way back," he added.
