Delhi Daredevils left-arm fast bowler Dirk Nannes has announced his retirement from first-class cricket
"After much consideration, I've decided to retire from first-class cricket," Nannes said in a statement, iplt20.com reported.
Nannes is the second Victorian cricketer to retire from the longer form of the game this season. The other is Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Brad Hodge.
Nannes, 33, who made his first-class debut only in 2006 had an immediate impact on the game. He started focusing on cricket quite late in life having concentrated on skiing until his mid-20s.
He has played 23 first-class matches for Victoria Bushrangers and Middlesex. He hit the spotlight as a Twenty20 player and is even a member of the Australian squad for the upcoming matches against West Indies.
Nannes has represented two countries in international cricket: Australia and he also turned out for the Netherlands in last year's Twenty20 world championships.
Nannes had suffered a hamstring tendon injury earlier in the season, and that injury played a part in his decision to quit.
"Having been able to play just one game in the longer format this season due to injury, this decision will allow me to concentrate on 50-over and Twenty20 cricket and extend my career with Victoria and Australia.
"Hopefully I can continue to make a strong contribution in the shorter forms of the game for a number of seasons to come."
His retirement means there won't be any clash between his Sheffield Shield and Indian Premier League commitments and he would be able to participate in the entire IPL 2010 season. He also intends to continue playing limited-overs cricket
