The Argentine tennis player defeated the Serbian star 7(7)-6(3), 6-4. This was a rematch to the 2012 London Games for the bronze medal, which Del Potro had won.

Should Djokovic have gone on to win a gold medal, he would have had achieved a Career Golden Slam.
