Italian rider Valentino Rossi won the Dutch MotoGp on Saturday to record his 100th career win and take the overall lead in the world championship standings.

"I am so happy. I felt good on the first lap and knowing that Lorenzo is difficult to beat I put my foot down to establish as big an advantage as possible over him," said Rossi.

"It gives me great pleasure to record this victory. This is a great moment for me," added Rossi, who is 22 victories away from breaking the all-time record of Giacomo Agostini.

"I must thank everybody. My team and my fans. I would like to also thank my friends and my family, in fact everybody that has inspired me and kept me focussed.

"I am the second rider in history to win 100 races, behind Agostini.

"I am just so delighted! I hope that I will be able to have other victories in future seasons and beat his record."
