Sandeep Warrier's father was overcome with emotion when he learnt that his son got the Man of the Match award yesterday in India's Asian Cricket Council's Emerging Teams Cup Group A match against Pakistan.

"I feel so proud and happy. I have no words to express myself for what he has done today (3 for 32 in Singapore)," Sankarankutty, the father of 22-year-old pace bowler said from Kerala.u00a0

India under-23 won the match against Pakistan with more than two overs to spare. "Sandeep has done well in the domestic matches and it was his first big match outside the country.

He was a bit worried in the morning when he phoned us before the game and was concerned about how the pitch would behave. I told him to be patient and perform well," said Sankarankutty.

"My mother cried today. She made me cry too. These were tears of joy," Sandeep's sister Sandhya said from Mumbai where she works as an marketing executive.

Sandeep grabbed top order wickets before Unmukt Chand (61 off 103 balls) starred with the bat to pave the way for India's victory.

"It may have been a close call for the MoM award between Unmukt and Sandeep," felt Unmukt's father Bharat Chand.

"Had my son scored 10 more runs, who knows the award would have gone to him. But I have no regrets. My son has always performed well against the Pakistan team," he signed off. u00a0 u00a0 u00a0 u00a0 u00a0u00a0
