It is believed that the Council which met at the Bandra Kurla Complex yesterday, had no option but to scrap the two outfits because the ED had pointed out large number of irregularities.

It is learnt that the BCCI could have landed itself in a lot of trouble by allowing things to continue like before.

"I cannot confirm whether the decision was based on the revelations made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) or not. That would be difficult to answer," N Srinivasan, BCCI's secretary and President elect told MiD DAY.

"The BCCI disciplinary committee has carried out a thorough investigation before reaching this conclusion," he added.

MiD DAY has access to the papers ED had prepared after a thorough inquiry into the financial irregularities in the controversial Twenty20 league which was run by the former IPL commissioner.

A BCCI official said that the worst was behind the IPL. "We were often kept unaware of the deals Modi was pulling through. We have absolutely no idea how so many funds were transferred in and out of the country, so many of them involving the BCCI-IPL maintained banks. In the end, we are glad to have started the process of cleaning up the mess," he said.
