Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke hit an unbeaten century as Australia reached 4-316 on the first day of the opening Test against New Zealand at Wellington.
Showing no effects of his recent break up with model Lara Blinge, Clarke (100') played a matured innings along with Marchus North (52') to put up a 140-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Clarke's innings included two sixes and 10 fours in 102 deliveries.
Earlier, opener Simon Katich (79) got Australia off to a solid start before being trapped lbw by debutant Brent Arnel.
Australian skipper Ricky Ponting (41) was run out soon after lunch for 41 after a mix-up with Katich.
Mike Hussey (4) was caught in the slips off Chris Martin's bowling.
Punting won the toss for the seventh successive time and decided to bat first.
