Delhi Daredevils assistant coach Eric Simons says that Gautam Gambhir will lead the side to success at this edition of the IPL which is going to start from March 12, cricketnext.com reported

Gambhir replaced Virender Sehwag as Delhi Daredevils captain following last year's semi-final finish in South Africa.

"Gautam Gambhir is a very calm and composed individual. He is a very clear thinking player," Simons said on Tuesday.

"He is a team player and he does not have an ego. He is very confident about his decisions and supports his players well. He is a clever thinking player and he knows what the situtaion demands and will act according to the situation," he said during radio stationFever 104's tie-up with the Delhi franchise.

Simons added that South African mainstay AB de Villiers will hold the key in the Daredevils middle order. "He is a complete player who can rotate the strike and can hit the ball hard as well. Our middle-order batting will revolve around de Villiers," he said.

When asked about the make-up of his team, Simons pointed out it was the balance of the side which got them into the semi-finals in both the previous editions and it would be no different this time.

"Delhi has a balanced squad. I didn't have the chance to see local players but by the time the tournament progresses we will get to know the right balance and players for the squad."

The Daredevils will also get a boost when New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori and England ODI skipper Paul Collingwood join the team at later stages of the tournament.
