Paul Gascoigne thinks he can still get back on track despite a worrying public appearance last week, according to Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) chief executive Gordon Taylor

The former footballer, who has struggled with alcohol problems in the past and was sectioned under the Mental Health Act in 2008, was filmed trembling and speaking incoherently at a charity event on Thursday.u00a0

Gascoigne's agent, Terry Baker said his organisation is in touch with Gascoigne and received assurances that the former England star was keen to recover. "He still feels he is capable of getting back on track and (that) it is a relapse he has had.

He does need specialist care and a very strong 24-hour support system, but again, it needs him to be part of that," Taylor said.
