Farokh Engineer, 87, recently underwent heart surgery at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester and is recovering well at his home in Cheshire.

The former India stumper, who figured in 46 Tests from 1961 to 1975, underwent TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation). "A new aortic valve was inserted and connected to my heart. I am glad to advise my operation was a huge success. The surgeon in-charge, Mamta Buch, was extremely efficient while conducting a delicate operation with some risks involved. The youngish Gujarati lady has quite a reputation as one of the topmost surgeons in the TAVI field," Engineer told mid-day.

While news of his recent operation has come only through this paper, he is grateful for all the good wishes he has received from close friends across the globe and has no doubts that he will receive plenty of wishes from India as well.

Engineer was in Mumbai last February for his birthday.
