Australia's star batter Steve Smith can't get enough of the thoroughly entertaining England vs India five-Test series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Part of an online media interaction organised by Sony Sports Network on Sunday, Smith said that he was busy watching the final day's play in the Oval Test before being summoned for the call. "You guys have dragged me. I was watching [the England vs India series on TV] just before this interaction. It looks like it's set up for a beautiful last day," Smith replied when asked by mid-day if he had been following the series.
However, Smith, who has 10,477 runs in 119 Tests, remained tight-lipped when asked to pick a favourite between India and England. "Nah, no favourites, just happy to see it go till the last hour of the day. A result will be great for the game, like the rest of the matches have been. It's been a wonderful series to watch," said the 36-year-old, who is excited to be making his debut in The Hundred for Team Welsh Fire.
The Aussie batting mainstay said the tournament, which begins on August 5, will help improve his game in the shorter format as he sets his sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. "I wanted to play a few more leagues around the world and get more consistent in the shorter format. My next goal is to be a part of the Olympic team in LA [Los Angeles]. You always want to try and get better and have an impact in whichever team you play for. I'm excited about playing with the Welsh Fire in The Hundred for the first time. Hopefully, I can have a good impact and help the team have some success," Smith concluded.
