In the third ODI match against the West Indies, Team India suffered a loss by five wickets at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
During the match, West Indies' skipper Shai Hope delivered a match-winning knock of 162 runs in 143 balls. His knock also included 17 boundaries and three maximums.
Speaking about the run chase, the visitors' skipper revealed the advice he received from MS Dhoni.
"It's always a lot easier in India, especially with the dew. Wanted to finish the series on a strong not and glad we got over the line. Felt something around the groin area but wanted to fight through till the end. Firstly, we were a batter down and probably two, so it was always going to be a challenge. It's something I had a great chat with the great man MS Dhoni, who told me you always have more time than you think," he said.
"So we tried to break the chase down. I knew India would have to bring fielders in for the over rate penalty. So stayed patient," added Hope.
Riding on his knock, he registered the highest individual score by a West Indies' batsman in a successful ODI run chase.
Hope's unbeaten 162 off 143 balls, studded with 17 fours and three sixes, surpassed Chris Gayle's 162 against England at St George's in 2019 to become the highest score by a West Indies batsman in an ODI run chase.
The 31-year-old also became the first West Indies batsman to score 150 or more in a successful ODI chase against the "Men in Blue".
Hope's latest landmark also took his tally to eight ODI centuries as a wicketkeeper-captain, the most by any player in the format. India's MS Dhoni follows with six, while South Africa's AB de Villiers has four.
The West Indies skipper also reached his 21st ODI hundred in his 152nd innings, making him the joint-third fastest to the milestone alongside Quinton de Kock and David Warner.
