Half-centuries from Josh Inglis (73 off 42 balls) and Priyansh Arya (35-ball 62) help PBKS beat Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets to lead points table and book Qualifier 1 berth; Suryakumar’s fighting 57 goes in vain as MI remain in 4th place

Riding on half-centuries by Josh Inglis (42-ball 73) and opener Priyansh Arya (62 off 35 balls), Punjab Kings booked their place in Thursday's Qualifier 1 with a seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in the penultimate league fixture of the Indian Premier League here on Monday.

Chasing 185, PBKS reached the target with nine balls to spare, thanks to a 109-run stand between Inglis and Arya. Inglis's knock was laced with three sixes and nine fours, while Arya smashed nine fours and two maximums. Spinner Mitchell Santner (2-41) was the pick of the bowlers for MI.

The victory ensured PBKS secured a Top-2 spot with 19 points, while MI (16 points) remained in fourth place and will play the Eliminator on Friday.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya pushed MI to 184-7 despite a decent bowling effort from PBKS.

With both teams needing a win to seal a Top-2 spot in the standings, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer put MI in to bat at a venue that has produced 200-plus first innings scores for the majority of the season.

Suryakumar (57 off 39 balls), who has been a picture of consistency this season, broke Sachin Tendulkar's record to become the highest run scorer for the Mumbai outfit in an IPL season.

Though opener Ryan Rickelton (27 off 20) played some sublime strokes, MI could get 52 for one in the Powerplay.

Arshdeep Singh swung the ball both ways in the opening over of the game, troubling Rickelton who managed to survive.

In the following over, Rickelton got a couple of boundaries from Kyle Jamieson, who was making his debut for PBKS.

Rohit Sharma (24 off 21) was slow off the blocks before a straight hit over mid-off against Marco Jansen got him going.
