Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, Australia's swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has pulled out of the tournament.
He made the announcement by sharing a post on his official social media handle. "After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I've decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It's a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me. The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I've been lucky to play with world-class teammates, represent incredible franchises, and perform in front of fans whose passion in unmatched. The memories, the challenges, and the energy of India will stay with me forever," read his post.
"Thank you for all your support over the years, hopefully see you soon. Cheers Maxi," it added.
He represented Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the previous season. The franchise had acquired his services for Rs. 4.2 crore. He had fractured his finger during the tournament and was later replaced by Australia's Mitchell Owen, who has been retained.
Former South Africa cricketer Faf du Plessis also shared a post on his official social media handle, in which the right-handed batsman stated that he will not be participating in the league. The 41-year-old cricketer also said that he will make his appearance in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) veteran all-rounder Andre Russell also announced his retirement from the league. He will now serve the franchise in the new role, "power coach" for the upcoming edition.
In the IPL, 1,355 players have registered for the auction and were shared with the franchises on Monday after registrations closed on November 30. With each franchise allowed a maximum squad of 25, and 77 slots are available this year, including 31 for overseas players.
The IPL will trim this list after receiving the wishlists from all ten teams. Franchises have been given time until December 5 to submit their shortlist, ahead of the day-long auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16.
Among the Indian players, specialists in key roles could attract big bids, but the spotlight is firmly on Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who had skipped the 2025 mega-auction due to a back injury.
