Star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has stepped down from the leadership role of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The official social media handle of the Lucknow-based franchise shared a post on social media which read, "Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) wish to formally announce that Rishabh Pant has requested to be relieved of his captaincy duties with the franchise, and the franchise has accepted his request with immediate effect".
The decision came after Lucknow's early exit from the ongoing edition of the cash-rich league. Having played 14 matches, the Super Giants finished at the bottom of the table. They managed to register just four wins and suffered defeats in 10 matches. With a net run rate (NRR) of -0.740, they also have eight points.
The skipper, too, had a poor run in the tournament. Making his appearance in all 14 matches, the left-handed batsman managed to score 312 runs, including one half-century. His top score in the 2026 edition is an unbeaten 68 runs.
LSG's top run-scorer was Mitchell Marsh. He featured in 13 matches and accumulated 563 runs with a ton and three half-centuries. His top score was 111 runs.
Currently, the fans will witness the Qualifier 2 clash between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Friday at the Maharaja Singh PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Ahead of the match, people will keep a tab on RR's in-form opening batsman, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Currently, he is the leading run-scorer in the tournament. Having played 15 matches, the left-handed batsman has scored 680 runs with an average of 45.33.
The winning team from today's match will qualify for the final of the IPL 2026. The title clash of the marquee event is scheduled to be played against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
