In the IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) emerged victorious by 103 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

During the match, MI's star batsman Tilak Varma and CSK's Jamie Overton were involved in a heated conversation. Varma glanced one of Overton's deliveries on the leg side. After completing the first run, the left-handed batsman was seen having an animated chat with the CSK pacer while attempting a second run.

Batting first, the Super Kings posted a total of 207 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson delivered an unbeaten knock of 101 runs off just 54 deliveries, laced with 10 boundaries and six maximums. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, however, departed after scoring 22 runs in 14 balls, with the help of three boundaries and a maximum.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed on 14 runs in eight balls, including three boundaries. Facing 11 balls, Dewald Brevis smashed 21 runs, with the help of a boundary and two maximums.

MI's Allah Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar bagged two wickets each. Lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner also chipped in with one wicket each. Skipper Hardik Pandua and Krish Bhagat failed to claim any wickets against CSK.

In the second essay of the game, the "Paltan" lost the early wickets of its opening duo of Quinton de Kock and Danish Malewar.

Tilak Varma emerged as the highest scorer for the side as he scored 37 runs in 29 balls, including five boundaries. Suryakumar Yadav also accumulated 36 runs in 30 balls, with the help of five boundaries.

Chennai's Akeal Hosein returned with the figures of four wickets for 17 runs in four overs. Noor Ahmad also bagged two wickets. Mukesh Choudhary, Anshul Kamboj, Jamie Overton, and Gurjapneet Singh registered one wicket each.

The win has helped the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Super Kings move up to the fifth position. They have three wins and four losses in seven games. They also have a net run rate (NRR) of +0.118 and six points.

Hardik Pandya-led MI has suffered five losses and registered two victories. With a net run rate (NRR) of -0.736 and four points, the "Men in Blue and Gold" are placed in the eighth position on the points table.
