Sri Lanka's 40-year-old all rounder Sanath Jayasuriya, whou00a0 earned the name of pinch-hitter at the 1996 World Cup, was unaware of the fact that his world record for the most ODI sixes was broken by Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi on Monday.
The left-hander was delighted when he was informed about Afridi's feat in Worcester, while he was preparing for a T20 county tie. "I'm happy that my record has been broken in my own country," said Jayasuriya.u00a0
Afridi's aggression may be judged from the fact that Jayasuriya hit 270 sixes in 444 matches across a 20-year ODI career while Afridi has 446 sixes to his name after he broke the record in his 296th ODI against Bangladesh in Dambulla at the ongoing Asia Cup. "It's up to an individual's skill and I have no regrets about the record being broken," added Jayasuriya. In January 2009, Jayasuriya became the second man to cross 13,000 ODI runs and a month later he was elected Member of Parliament from his home town, Matara from the United People's Freedom Alliance party.
