A brilliant all-round performance by Jacques Kallis helped Bangalore Royals Challengers beat Delhi Daredevils at the Wanderers Stadium yesterday and keep their hopes of a semi-final spot alive in the DLF 2009 Indian Premier League.

The star South African all-rounder was named man-of-the-match for his unbeaten 58 (56 balls) and bowling performance of 4-0-17-1.

And his contribution to the team has not only been on the field. Along with Mark Boucher, Kallis was also responsible for getting Ray Jennings as the coach.

"The interesting thing is Kallis and Boucher put my name forward when Vijay Mallya offered me the job. And I said: 'I need players to back me'.

"To which Jacques said: 'Whatever happens, I will come close to the man of the series' and he's living up to those expectations," the former South Africa coach said.

"He's a superb cricketer with great attitude," said Jennings after his team's emphatic seven-wicket win.

Apart from performing, Kallis is also playing the leadership role in devising batting gameplans for his team.

"Kallis and Boucher advice Kumble (in batting strategy). When you have a player like Kallis who's got a lot of experience, it's stupid to not use it," said Jennings.
