English league leaders Manchester United are considering a bid for Chelsea's prolific midfielder Frank Lampard following the London club's decision to not renew the English international's contract

Lampard's agent had earlier made it clear that the midfielder will leave the club at the end of the season on a free transfer.

"At the moment, Frank is only thinking of the present. As far as the future is concerned, the only thing that is certain is that his team will change at the end of the season," agent Steve Kutner reportedly told www.Cittaceleste.it.

"Frank wants to play for a great team, fight for important goals and win other trophies.

"A player of his calibre should continue playing at the highest level. Serie A could be more than just a possibility," added Kutner who later denied making the comments.

With veterans Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs still playing for the Manchester club, manager Alex Ferguson has identified the England international as a potential target to bolster his midfield options, reports Daily Telegraph.

Chelsea signed the 34-year-old from West Ham United in a 11 million pounds deal.

In 2009, Ferguson spoke highly of Lampard.

"He is an exceptional player and a huge asset to his team," he had said.

Chelsea supporters have vociferously supported one of their highest goalscorers and have egged club owner Roman Abhramovich to extend his contract.
Lampard is just nine goals away from equalling Bobby Tambling as the club's all-time leading goalscorer.

The 34-year-old has reportedly attracted interest in his services from English Premier League strugglers QPR, Los Angeles Galaxy and China's Guizhou Renhe among others.u00a0
