MCA unhappy as Mumbai coach Muzumdar applies for NCA job

Mumbai coach Amol Muzumdar appearing for an interview at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore recently has not gone down well with members of the Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) Apex Council.

A Council member revealed during Friday's meeting that Muzumdar has applied for the post of batting coach at NCA.

However, a few MCA office-bearers came to Muzumdar's defence, stating that the domestic cricket stalwart would not leave Mumbai cricket till his contract ends on March 31 next year.

Some remained unconvinced though. "If Muzumdar is not planning to leave Mumbai, then what made him appear for the NCA interview," one member questioned at the meeting. It is learnt however, that one MCA official clarified that the interviews were being conducted for next year's appointments.

A WhatsApp message from mid-day to Muzumdar went unanswered at the time of going to press.

Meanwhile, MCA president Dr Vijay Patil will represent the association at BCCI's Annual General Meeting on December 4. In previous instances, MCA secretary Sanjay Naik or MCA vice-president Amol Kale have represented the MCA at the BCCI meeting.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Dr Patil tried to sort out issues between Mumbai selector Anand Yalvigi and Apex Council member Kiran Powar. Yalvigi had alleged that Powar had threatened him about the selection of some players. At the meeting, Powar was asked why he did not prefer to clarify his stand in the media. To
this, he replied, "I don't want to spoil Mumbai cricket's name."

In another development, MCA has requested the Maharashtra government to permit a full capacity crowd at the Wankhede Stadium for the second Test between India and New Zealand to be played from December 3.
