New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori elected to bat after winning the toss in the second cricket Test against India on Friday.
India retained the squad that drew the opening Test in Ahmedabad earlier this week.
New Zealand made three changes in their squad, including Tim Southee and Brent Arnell for a three-pronged seam attack while Martin Guptill was picked in place of number three batsman BJ Watling.
Arnell replaced off-spinner Jeetan Patel while Southee came in for the injured Hamish Bennett.
The third and the final Test will be played in Nagpur from Nov 20-24.
