Rajasthan medium-pacer Pankaj Singh was surprised when he received a call-up from the Royal Challengers Bangalore to play against the Rajasthan Royals yesterday.
Singh is one of three RCB players who hail from Rajasthan the other two being India U-19 skipper Ashok Menaria and Rajesh Bishnoi. However, all three were told by RCB to stay at home and practice, and that they would be summoned whenever their services were required.
In fact, the trio expected to play in Jaipur earlier when the RCB toured here, but that didn't happen too. So, they opted to go to Delhi to participate in the summer tournaments there. That's when Pankaj got the call from the team management asking him to return to Jaipur. The 24-year-old did justice to his selection by picking up two crucial wickets in RCB's five-wicket win.
