Indian cricket team can heave a sigh of relief after the medical reports confirmed that there were no serious concerns with regards to captain Virat Kohli's shoulder injury and the treatment will assist him participate in the rest of the Ranchi Test

Ranchi: The Indian cricket team can heave a sigh of relief after medical reports confirmed that there were no "serious concerns" with regards to captain Virat Kohli's shoulder injury and the treatment would assist him participate in the rest of the third Test.

BCCI issued a statement, making it clear that Kohli was getting treatment for a mere strain and that there was nothing to worry about.

"The BCCI Medical Team confirms that Indian Captain Mr. Virat Kohli is presently undergoing treatment to recuperate from a strain in his right shoulder. Relevant investigations have revealed that there are no serious concerns, which will hamper his speedy recovery from a strain in his right shoulder due to a fall while fielding on Day 1 of the third Paytm Test against Australia in Ranchi," BCCI said in a statement.

"He will continue to receive treatment, which will assist him to participate in the rest of the match," the statement added.

Ealier, Kohli had undergone scans on his right shoulder which was injured while fielding as he was forced to walk off the field in the post-lunch session on the opening day of the third Test against Australia on Thursday.

The incident took place in the 40th over, with Kohli landing heavily on his right shoulder on the fast and hard outfield of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association International Stadium Complex while trying to save a boundary at deep midwicket.

"The exact status of Virat's injury will be known by tomorrow morning. He is going to undergo scans later today," India's fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar told reporters in Ranchi.

Kohli, who is being treated with ice packs at the moment, went off the field leaving vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane to lead the side for the rest of the day.

He was seen putting on ice packs in the dressing room. "We took a precaution (in taking him off the field) to make sure that he doesn't aggravate the injury," Sridhar said.

"It was quite an intense chase to the boundary line. In his intent to save that one run, he stopped the ball but landed on his right shoulder when he rolled over," he said.

"The impact was quite heavy because of the momentum he was carrying and there was a shock on his right shoulder," he added.

Australia piled on the runs in Kohli's absence to end the day on 299 for four with skipper Steve Smith (117) and Glenn Maxwell (82) at the crease.

The batting duo put on an unbeaten 159-run stand for the fifth wicket with Rahane rotating his bowling options without any success. No Australian wicket fell after Kohli left the field.

Kohli has already been off the ground for over three hours and will have to take the field for an equal amount of time before he is able to bat at his usual number four position.
