AL-Barkaat MMI skipper Shoeb Khan scored a magnificent 216 to put his team in command on Day One of the four-day MSSA -Mumbai Indians (MI) Giles Shield Elite Division final against IES VN Sule Guruji (Dadar)

Opting to bat, Al-Barkaat ended the day at 329-3 in 94 overs. Shoeb's knock was laced with 24 boundaries before he was shown the door by left-arm spinner Sanath Nakte. Shoeb was ably assisted by Ritik Sharma (41) and Sumeet Singh (34).u00a0

The 13-year-old has had a fantastic Giles Shield this season with two double tons and a couple of centuries against his name. He has totalled 724 runs in the five matches, but the Al-Barkaat all-rounder is disappointed for not getting a triple century.

Big day
"Today was a big day for me as this is the first time we are playing at the Brabourne stadium. I was enjoying in the middle. Once I crossed the 200-run mark, I was confident of a triple ton, but I missed it. I don't know whether I should be happy or sad. It's good that I was able to score 216, but it hurts as I got out to a full toss delivery," he said.

Meanwhile, Sule Guruji skipper Dhruva Vedak is confident that they still stand a chance to defend the title. "Considering that the track is batsman-friendly, even if Al-Barkaat make 400-plus, we can win this match," said Dhruva.

Brief score: Al-Barkaat MMI (Kurla) 329-3 (Soheb Khan 216; Sanath Nakte 1-71) vs IES VN Sule Guruji (Dadar)u00a0
